CPM hasn't sought support from SDPI: Chief Minister

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has denied allegations that the CPM sought support from the SDPI, calling the claims “baseless.”

“The allegation that CPM sought support from SDPI is not true. The situation in Nemom is also the same. The circumstances during the last election were different. In 2021, we contested with the aim of closing the account opened by the BJP in the state. There may be people who believe the LDF is best suited to defeat the BJP, but that is not part of any agreement,” the CM said.

He stressed that the LDF has never compromised with communal forces. “The LDF has no understanding with communal groups. But the UDF has never said it does not want SDPI votes. Congress and SDPI have moved together,” he alleged.

The Chief Minister also warned about the dangers of majoritarian communalism. “The biggest threat in the country is majority communalism. The LDF has always taken a strong stand against it. We have taken steps to protect minorities, and this has earned us support among them. Some are now trying to destroy that image,” he said.

On media controversy
Responding to dramatic scenes during a recent press conference in Kollam, Pinarayi Vijayan said, “It is unfortunate that some journalists deliberately created a disturbance. This is another attempt to distort facts. I can answer the questions that are asked before me, not the questions in someone’s mind. I cannot respond to what is not asked.”

The Chief Minister said he usually tries to answer all questions but criticised certain sections for acting with “a specific agenda.”
