THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has come out against the restrictions imposed on Sundays in the state due to Covid spike. In a press release, KCBC President Cardinal Mar George Alencherry criticized the restrictions on Sundays as violating the worship rights of Christians. The press release also said that the state government's strict regulation that believers can only attend worship at religious places online is illogical.

While programs are allowed with restrictions in many other areas, such a strict restriction imposed only on religious places, that strictly adhere to the Covid regulations, should be reconsidered. Restrictions not imposed on other days of the week are imposed only on Sundays, which is detrimental to the religious rights of Christian denominations. Mar George Alencherry demanded that the government bring in Covid restrictions respecting the religious rights of believers.
