Floating bridge collapses again at Varkala’s Papanasam, accident due to strong waves

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The floating bridge collapsed yet again in Varkala’s Papanasam beach. The floating bridge, which was set up for study purposes in the same place where the accident occurred last year, collapsed. The floating bridge collapsed due to strong waves Friday early morning. The floating bridge was set up yesterday. The floating bridge collapsed at Papanasam on March 9 last year.


The floating bridge was restored for the stability test of NIT. The floating bridge was inaugurated on January 1, 2024, on the Papanasam coast. It was operated by a Trichy-based company called Joy Water Sports. However, three months later, the floating bridge collapsed due to the strong waves. Tourism Minister Muhammad Riyaz, who arrived in Papanasam to inaugurate the International Surfing Fest yesterday, had assured that the floating bridge would be restored. 15 tourists were injured when the floating bridge collapsed last year.
