THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With just a week left for campaign activities, political fronts in Kerala are racing to secure votes. However, leaders are still caught in controversies and disputes. The situation has become more complicated with the debate over the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) amendment.
With limited time left, election manifestos have become the key tool to attract voters. The NDA released its manifesto yesterday with major promises. The UDF is expected to release its manifesto today or tomorrow, while the LDF will release theirs on the 2nd in Kozhikode.
All three fronts are now focusing on highlighting welfare schemes and development plans through their manifestos, as weather conditions have affected door-to-door campaigning. Social media has become the main campaign platform.
NDA promises AIIMS
The NDA has announced major promises, including Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance for households to buy essential items. It has also promised to implement the long-awaited AIIMS project in Kerala and introduce high-speed rail.
LDF focus on ending poverty
The LDF is expected to prioritise eliminating extreme poverty and aims to achieve a poverty-free Kerala. It may also propose increasing welfare pensions to Rs 2,500, along with more welfare schemes.
UDF offers Rs 25 lakh insurance
The UDF manifesto is likely to highlight five guarantees announced by Rahul Gandhi. These include free travel for women in KSRTC buses, increasing welfare pensions to Rs 3,000, and providing free insurance coverage of up to Rs 25 lakh per family. A healthcare scheme named after Oommen Chandy is also expected.
