KOCHI: Owing to heavy rains, holiday has been declared for educational institutions in five districts of the state tomorrow. The district collectors have declared holiday to educational institutions from Anganwadi to professional colleges in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Wayanad. However, the holiday is not applicable for public exams and university exams.
Idukki district collector Sheeba George declared holiday for educational institutions including Anganwadis and professional colleges in the district on Thursday due to continued rain and strong winds. There will be no change in previously scheduled public examinations and university examinations. The holiday is also not applicable to residential schools.
Kottayam district collector V Vigneshwari said that educational institutions including Anganwadis and professional colleges will be closed on Thursday due to continued rains and strong winds. Owing to the rain warnings in the coming days, access to the tourist centres of Kottayam district such as Elaveezhapoonchira, Illikkalkal and Marmala stream on the Erathupetta-Vagamon road will be closed. The district collector, who is also the chairperson of the district disaster management authority, also banned night travel till June 30.
Due to waterlogging in various schools of Cherthala in Alappuzha and strong rains in the taluk, collector declared holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges, Anganwadis and schools running relief camp in Cherthala taluk on June 27. There is no change in the previously scheduled exams. The water level is rising in Upper Kuttanad. It is reported that there is waterlogging in Thalavadi.
Thiruvananthapuram district collector Geromic George has issued order banning of transportation, quarrying, mining activities and tourism except for essential services to sea, lake and hilly region in Thiruvananthapuram district until further notice.
