Heavy rain today, orange alert issued in various districts; holiday for educational institutions

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain has been predicted in the state today. Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod are on orange alert. Yellow alert has also been sounded in Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kannur.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of moderate rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod with strong winds of up to 30 kmph and light rain at isolated places in other districts.

Holiday for educational institutions
A holiday has been announced for educational institutions including professional institutions in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur. Apart from this, educational institutions in Ernakulam and Idukki functioning as relief camps will remain closed today.

Fishing banned
Fishermen should not venture into the sea. The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that a high wave of 1.9 to 2.3 meters is possible on the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of high waves of 1.9 to 2.1 meters along the coast of Tamil Nadu till 11.30 pm tomorrow.
