THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state. Yellow alert has been sounded in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod today. A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that heavy rains mean rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is expected.
Heavy rain will continue in the coming days. Three districts will be on orange alert tomorrow. Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. Chance of heavy rain at isolated places has been predicted. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has defined heavy rainfall as 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm rainfall in 24 hours.
Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad are on yellow alert tomorrow. Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and districts are on yellow alert day after tomorrow and in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Tuesday.
Kannur and Kasaragod coasts should be vigilant. There is a possibility of higher waves and rougher seas. The National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon and high waves of 2.3 to 3.1 meters along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. The weather department has informed that should not go fishing on the North Kerala coast-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast.
People living in danger zones should be cautious as there is a possibility of severe storm surge along various coasts. Should relocate at the necessary stage. Fishing equipment should be kept safe.
