THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI has said in the charge sheet submitted to the court that the accused policemen fabricated evidence for the ISRO espionage case. The charge sheet filed in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate also alleged conspiracy to humiliate women. This is a non-bailable offence. The court directed the accused to appear in person on July 26.
Former Special Branch Circle Inspector S Vijayan, former DGP Siby Mathews, former Gujarat DGP and IB deputy director RB Sreekumar, police officer KK Joshua and former IB inspector PS Jayaprakash are the accused. The accused have been charged with bodily harm to produce false evidence, forgery, unjust detention and conspiracy to insult women.
The CBI's first FIR contained a conspiracy to sabotage cryogenic technology. There were 18 accused in it. The charge sheet was filed against five people. The trial will be held in the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
Two FIRs were registered by the police in 1994 in connection with the espionage case. Cryogenic Project Director Nambi Narayanan was also booked as an accused. In the case filed by Nambi Narayanan in the Supreme Court in 2018, a favourable judgment came on April 15, 2021.
