THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the K Rail project was discussed in the assembly. Opposing the project is like harming the new generation. There is no development beyond nature and the Silver Line project will not harm the environment, added the chief minister.

He said the project was first discussed with the MLAs and nothing was hid in the assembly. The government will not implement any development that goes beyond nature. The argument that the state will be divided into two will not yield any results. There should be no fear of floods, the chief minister said.

The chief minister reiterated that if the infrastructure is not improved, it will affect the general development of the country. His response was during the Janasamaksham programme interacting with citizens on the Silver Line Project.

The chief minister said many projects criticised have been implemented. Have been able to convince those who were not ready to give land for the development of the national highway, the GAIL project was abandoned thinking it would not materialise but steps were taken to complete it. No one has any complaints now on the many issues opposed then and this is the practice of the state, he said.

Pinarayi Vijayan clarified that he will not give up the projects required for the state thinking that someone will oppose them. It is not the nature of the government to give in to disapproval. He added that he would not give in even if someone is obstinate.

The chief minister said would accept low interest loans for the project. Will collaborate with international agencies for this. The remaining amount will come from the central and state’s share. Land should be acquired in two years. The remaining three years are for construction. If the project is delayed, the cost will rise, he said.
