Minor girl gets married in Malappuram; parents, husband and Mahalu Khasi taken into custody

MALAPPURAM: Several people were taken into police custody for conducting the marriage of a minor girl at Karuvarakundu in Malappuram. Karuvarkundu police have registered a case against the girl's parents, her husband, Mahallu Khasi and the guests who attended the marriage. The case was registered under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act. The marriage took place yesterday.

According to the law, conducting the marriage of a minor girl is punishable by five years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10 lakh. Police confirmed the incident soon after it received information about the marriage. Police have not released the details of those taken into custody as the name and other details of the minor girl should not be disclosed.
