MALAPPURAM: A patient inside the ambulance died after getting stuck in the traffic jam at Vaniyambalam. The dead is Askar (54) of Emangadu. The incident happened Friday night at 9 pm. The traffic jam occurred after the railway gate was closed in Vaniyambalam. The ambulance got stuck in the railway crossing after the patient, who collapsed at home, was being taken to the hospital in Wandoor.

The ambulance moved backwards and took him to another clinic, but his life could not be saved. He leaves behind his wife Fazeela and children Ayesha Afrin, Shesin Mohammed, Lifa Neha and Mohammed Zian. The locals staged protest over the incident. The locals led by Vaniyambalam Janakeya Samithi, lit torches near the railway gate and protested. Since there is no flyover in Vaniyambalam, vehicles including ambulances getting stuck in traffic jams are common.
