Playback singer Sangeetha Sachith no more

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Famous playback singer Sangeetha Sachith died here Sunday. She was 46. She died at her sister’s house in the capital city early this morning while undergoing treatment for kidney ailments. She will be laid to rest at Shanthikavadam at 3 pm this evening.

She has sung almost 200 films in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. She became famous through the song ‘Ambilipoovattom Ponnuruli’ from the film ‘Ennu Swantham Janakikutty’. Her song ‘Thannerai Kathalikkum’ from the film Mr Homeo was a hit. ‘Odathandil Thalam Kottum’ from Pazhassi Rajai, ‘Dhum Dhum Dhum Dureyetho’ from Rakkilipattu, ‘Alare Govinda’ from Kakkakuyil and ‘Thalam Poyi Thappum Poyi’ from Ayyappanum Koshy were also quite famous. She last sang the theme song for the film Kuruthi.

She had also sang for more than hundred audio cassettes in Malayalam and Tamil. She had accompanied many famous singers for ganamelas organised abroad.

Her immense ability to sing in a way reminiscent of the voice of K B Sundarambal singing ‘Jnanapazhathe Pizhinthu’ also made her famous. The then chief minister Jayalalithaa who witnessed her singing this at an awards function came to the dais and presented her gold chain of 10 sovereigns.

She is the daughter of late V G Sachith and Rajamma. She was a permanent resident of Chennai. She leaves behind her only daughter Aparna and siblings Swapna Shyama Prasad and Smitha Anil.
