Noted scriptwriter and author Balram Mattannur passes away

KANNUR: Noted scriptwriter and author Balram Mattannur passed away Thursday morning. He was 62. He had scripted for many films including Kaliyattam, Karmayogi, Samavakyam, Anyalokam, Pithavinum Puthranum Parishudha Athmavium etc.

He had penned books such as Muyal Gramam, Ravi Bhagavan, Kattiloode Nattiloode, Balan, Pavapetta Kadha, Jeevitham Poongavanam, Anantham, Kashi and many others.

He is survived by his wife K N Soumya of Narath and daughter Gayathri Balram. His siblings are Jairam, Shailaja, Bhargava Ram and Latheesh.

Balram showed interest in literature during his school days and wrote his first novel named Muyal Gramam when studying in the ninth standard. However, this novel was published only when he was 20. The script of Kaliyattam was an adaptation of William Shakespeare's Othello.

He was battling some illness for quite some time. He will be cremated today at the Pulluppi community crematorium at 2 pm.
