PRD’s press release for LDF candidate; Kannur District Information Officer suspended

KANNUR: The election commission has taken action on the allegations that the government’s Public Relations Department (PRD) issued an official press release for the LDF candidate. The Kannur District Information Officer has been suspended in the incident. The action was taken on the grounds that it was against the impartial election process.

The State Election Commission took action against the district information officer based on the report submitted by the Kannur District Collector. The PRD issued a press release based on the complaint of LDF candidate K V Sumesh from Azhikode constituency. The press release included a complaint about the attempts on the personal attacks against Sumesh. The Kannur DCC had alleged yesterday that this was a serious violation of the rules.

However, the Kannur PRD explained that the election department had released it to the media. The election commission intervened in the matter after the incident became a big controversy. Muslim League district president and UDF district convener Karim Cheleri is the UDF candidate in the Azhikode constituency. Karim Cheleri is the general secretary of Taliparamba C H Center. BJP Kannur North district president K K Vinod Kumar is the NDA candidate.
