THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The trial in the journalist KM Basheer's death case will begin on August 1. The trial will be held at the Thiruvananthapuram First Additional Sessions Court. IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman is the accused in the case. The court had exempted the second accused, Wafa Firoz, from the charge sheet.
The trial in the case begins seven years after the incident. K M Basheer was killed at 1 am on August 3, 2019, near the Thiruvananthapuram Museum when a speeding car, driven by Sriram Venkitaraman, rammed into him. The car that hit Basheer was registered to Wafa Firoz, a native of Thiruvananthapuram. Although attempts were made to make it appear that Wafa was driving the vehicle, eyewitness statements indicated that it was Sriram who was driving the vehicle.
