KOLLAM: Actor Shammi Thilakan has expressed strong criticism over the collective resignation of AMMA's governing body, calling it a hasty decision. Speaking to the media, he argued that the mass resignation was unnecessary, as only the individuals directly accused should have stepped down.
"There is unrest within the organization due to the current situation. The collective resignation has created uncertainty among the members. AMMA has also become a victim of the President's silence. It seems the organization may have lost the President's responsiveness. My father might see these events as poetic justice, but he never sought revenge for the wrongs done to him. I don't have such thoughts either," Shammi Thilakan stated.
He further emphasized that it is now up to the government to take action. "Women should step into leadership roles within AMMA. Those who make mistakes should be willing to correct them and respondents should not be oppressed. The collective resignation cannot be dismissed as mere evasion; it feels like a knee-jerk reaction. This resignation is a betrayal of the more than 500 members who voted for the governing body," he added.
Shammi's comments come after the release of the Hema Committee report, which led to the dissolution of AMMA's governing body due to serious allegations of sexual misconduct. All office bearers, including President Mohanlal, have resigned. The decision was made during an online meeting today, with an ad hoc committee temporarily taking charge of the organization.
