SIVAGIRI: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan said that the world considers Sree Narayana Guru, a blend of spirituality and rationalism, as a guide to the future. The Vice President was inaugurating the 93rd Sivagiri pilgrimage.
"Guru was not a saint confined to his time. Guru proved that service to society is greater than rituals and that love for fellow beings is the highest form of devotion. The greatest contributions Kerala has made to the world are Adi Shankaracharya and Sree Narayana Guru, and their philosophies will continue to inspire humanity," the Vice President said.
"A powerful question posed by Sree Narayana Guru changed society. Why is one man considered inferior to another? Guru himself answered that injustice with words that captured centuries of discrimination: 'One caste, one religion, one God for man.'" Guru, who upheld faith without compromising reason, rejected superstitions. He welcomed rational questions. The Sivagiri pilgrimage, envisioned by the Guru for a new society through education, cleanliness, organisation, employment and self-respect, should inspire the younger generation."
"The Vice President called upon the youth to uphold the constitutional values of equality, brotherhood and justice, inspired by the teachings of Narayana Guru. Observing that pilgrimage in India is not tourism but transformation, the Vice President said that the Sivagiri pilgrimage is a great way of life.
