THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state Congress leaders, who boasted of unity before elections, have suddenly joined in the tug of war for the Chief Minister post. There is still more than two weeks for the results. However, the reports suggesting a UDF return to power after 10 years brought out the true colours of leaders.

The discussion on the Chief Minister on social media revolves around V.D. Satheesan, Ramesh Chennithala and K.C. Venugopal. Although these leaders tacitly called the discussions unnecessary, many know how these trios are pulling strings behind the scenes and employing minions to raise their stake for the CM seat.

MK Raghavan MP said that the ongoing discussions over the CM seat have left many loyals, who worked day and night for the party, disappointed.

A section of workers asked why a leader whose work centred around Delhi is being brought in suddenly when the UDF stands a chance to win the elections this time. Moreover, there is a general understanding that MPs should not contest in the assembly elections. However, the other side points to the history of leaders, not members of the assembly, becoming the Chief Minister.

It is learnt that the Muslim League may seek High Command intervention. Although the League has been repeating that it will not take sides, it feels that the current controversy is making a mockery of the UDF in front of the people. Even though RSP state secretary Shibu Baby John said that there is no room for interference in the internal affairs of the Congress, the party is visibly upset over the trivial fight for the CM seat. Meanwhile, AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala Deepa Dasmunsi, started talks with the leaders.

Even though it is said that groupism does not exist in the party, the suggestions of Satheesan, Chennithala and Venugopal were mainly considered in the selection of candidates. Therefore, it is also important which side has the upper hand among the winners. The national leadership has previously stated that if UDF gets a majority, the Chief Minister will be found through the opinions of the MLAs.
