THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Yesterday's CPM state secretariat meeting came under heavy criticism for its intolerant approach towards creative criticism of the government and the party's activities. Some members warned in the meeting held after the heavy setback in the Parliament elections that they should move forward with self-criticism and correct their mistakes or else there will be no party in existance.
Even party cadre votes were leaked in the elections. Many abstained from election activities and voting. There was a split in the community votes that the party and the Left Front were getting so far. The lapses in the government's activities should be corrected immediately. The secretariat also directed party ministers to speed up the projects to be completed in their respective departments.
Concern about BJP's advance
The state secretariat assessed that the BJP front securing close to 20 percent votes in the Lok Sabha elections in the state is alarming. The Sabarimala issue is still being used clandestinely by some communal organizations. BJP is benefiting from this. In all the constituencies where BJP's main leaders contested, they got huge votes. This should be seriously investigated.
Discussion about Rajya Sabha seat
Bilateral talks will be held with the constituent parties regarding the division of the two Rajya Sabha seats for the LDF. This is in a situation where CPI, Kerala Congress-M and RJD have staked claim for the seat. CPM-CPI debate will be held today. A final decision in this regard may be taken in the State Secretariat and Left Front meetings on 10th. 13th is the last date for submission of nomination.
