THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister V Sivankutty said that he will not contest from Nemom anymore. He clarified this while talking to the media in Thrissur. BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar had the other day hinted that he would contest from Nemom. Sivankutty informed his stand after this.

Sivankutty said that he had contested from Nemom thrice and had won twice. Once he defeated O Rajagopal and then Kummanam Rajasekharan. Sivankutty said the Left Front and the CPM will decide who will contest from Nemom and will abide by it. The minister clarified that his decision is the decision taken by the party for 40 years and that he will abide by it.

Nemom is a major assembly constituency where the Left Front and the BJP are in direct conflict in the state. There were hints that the constituency would be with the BJP in the recent corporation elections. Following this, the BJP had the other day said that Rajeev Chandrasekhar would contest here. In 2016, O Rajagopal won from Nemom and opened BJP's account in the Kerala Legislative Assembly. However, in the 2021 elections, V Sivankutty won Nemom from the BJP by defeating Kummanam Rajasekharan by 3949 votes.
