Prominent screenwriter Nizam Rawther passed away on Wednesday, just two days before the release of his awaited film 'Oru Sarkar Ulppannam'. It is reported that Nizam died at his home in Kadammanitta, after suffering a major heart attack. He was 49.
Nizam, son of Ret. Sales Tax Deputy Commissioner Meera Sahib in Athikattukulangara was a health inspector at Kadammanitta Primary Health Center. He leaves behind his wife Shafeena and children Rasool and Ajmi. INL District President Nisar Noormahal and Nisa are his siblings.
Nizam's death comes amid controversy over the Censor Board's proposal to remove the word 'Bharat' from the film, originally titled 'Oru Bharatha Sarkar Ulppannam'. Nizam even shared the latest movie promo on Tuesday night on his Facebook page. Nizam, a former journalist in the early 2000 era played a crucial role in unearthing the infamous Kozhikode ice cream parlour case.
Nizam has formerly worked in many documentaries and has made it a passion to work on his writing along with his profession. Nizam also co-wrote the screenplay of ‘Zachariayude Garbhinikal’. His other major works include 'Radio' and 'Bombay Mithai'.
