Accused in remand tries to smuggle packet of beedi to jail by hiding it in rectum, taken out by doctors after three and hours of effort

THRISSUR: An accused who is in remand was brought to Viyyur jail after being produced in the court, tried to smuggle a packet of beedi by hiding it in his rectum. A packet of beedi was found when he was taken to the hospital for examination due to abdominal pain. Finally, the doctors worked for three and a half hours to remove the beedi.

Sooraj, a native of Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta and a prisoner of Viyyur Jail, was taken to the Chalakudy court yesterday morning. He is accused in cases of attempted murder and theft. He has been in jail for more than six months in a case registered by the Mala police.

The police took Sooraj to the Thrissur District Hospital as he was feeling uneasy after returning from the court to the jail. The incident was known when an X-ray was taken. Later he was transferred to Thrissur Medical College. After three hours of struggle, the beedi was taken out by the doctors. He tried to smuggle the beedi by wrapping it in insulation tape. After initial treatment Sooraj was taken back to jail.
