MUMBAI: A 39-year-old gym trainer, accused of raping his live-in partner, was acquitted by a court in Maharashtra due to lack of sufficient evidence. The Additional Sessions Court observed that the prosecution had failed to prove the charges against the accused.

The accused, who was working at the gym, and the woman were living together from January 2012 to 2013. Their relationship soured after the accused threatened the victim and started a fake Facebook account in her name and posted her private pictures.

A chargesheet was filed on the basis of the FIR, but the complainant woman did not appear in the court. During the trial of the case, the prosecution informed the court that the complainant had shifted to New Jersey. The girl's father told the court that his daughter is not ready to testify and do not want to proceed with the case. Taking this into account, the accused was acquitted.
