KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Corporation has extended the waste disposal contract awarded to Zonta Infratech despite objections from the opposition. The governing body has decided to extend the contract to Zonta Infratech for the disposal of waste at Njeliyanparambu in Kozhikode with certain conditions. The condition is that a fine will be charged from the company if it fails to remove the garbage within 30 days. In case of violation of the contract, the company will have to pay an amount fixed by the corporation as a fine.
The opposition has objected to the decision to renew the contract of Zonta, which has found itself in the middle of a controversy after the fire at the Brahmapuram waste plant. Earlier, the contract awarded to the company had been renewed four times. The opposition is asking whether the company, which was not able to bring any change in the last four years, will be able to bring out any change within just one month.
