KOZHIKODE: A letter was sent to the Governor demanding a CBI probe into the Punjab National Bank scam, in which a senior bank manager misappropriated money worth crores of rupees. The letter was sent by Kozhikode Corporation opposition leader, KC Shobitha. She has also shot letters to CBI Director, RBI Governor, and Punjab National Bank Chairman. The accused MP Rijil, who is a senior manager at the bank is still absconding.

Meanwhile, the District Court, rejected Rijil’s anticipatory bail. The accused in his bail plea said that the bank scam was part of a conspiracy hatched by the authorities of the bank and the Corporation.

However, the court accepted the prosecution argument that senior manager, Rijil, had misused his position to swindle the money and rejected the bail plea.

The Crime Branch has given look-out notice to airports in a bid to prevent Rijil from leaving the country. According to the bank’s audit report says that money worth Rs.21.5 crores was misappropriated from the Corporation account. The audit report also says that money has been taken from the accounts of nine private individuals too. The Punjab National Bank has handed over their audit report to the Crime Branch.
