Son slips from father's shoulders to water; rescuing act ends in disaster

KANNUR: Father and son who went for a swim in Bavali river got drowned. The incident happened at 11 in the morning. Lijo Jose and his son Nevin got drowned putting the whole town in dismay and shock.

Lijo held his son on his shoulders and stepped into the dangerous waters of Bavali. The undercurrent was too deep as Nevin slipped from his father's shoulders to fall into the waters. In panic, Lijo delved deep to help his son get back to the surface from the mud clouted down the river. Sadly, Lijo never came up which panicked the nearby children who started howling informing the natives to come in for the search. The two were rushed to hospital but were declared dead.

Lijo’s wife Stephy is working in Kuwait. They also have a daughter Shivani.
