Roads should be made 'smart' before May 31; ministers give ultimatum

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A ministerial meeting that took place today directed that the construction of 16 smart roads in the city should be completed before May 31. The ultimatum was given in a meeting convened by Minister MB Rajesh to evaluate the road construction in the city. The contractors also said that the work will be completed on time. The decision was taken in view of the opening of schools and the upcoming rainy season. The Smart City should give a detailed report on the construction progress to the government every week. The government will intervene and take further action if the work is going slow. A ministerial evaluation assessment will be held again in May. Ministers V Sivankutty, Antony Raju, Mayor Arya Rajendran, Smart City officials and contractors also participated in the meeting held at the Secretariat Layam Hall.

Work going on only on 16 roads out of 40

Works had initially begun in making 40 roads in the city smart. At present, work is going on only on 16 roads. The tender process for six roads is ​​in the final stage. Although 10 were retendered, no one took up. Five are to be tendered. Three were temporarily suspended. The tenders for Manaveeyam Road, Chenthitta, Attakulangara, Althara, Thycaud, Kalabhavan Mani Road and General Hospital Vanchiyoor will be opened on the 28th.
