IDUKKI: The forest department has directed the task force to tranquilize Arikomban. If the climate is favourable, the elephant will be caught on Friday. During a discussion with minister AK Sasheeendran, Chief Minister directed to decide on the area to transfer the elephant only after catching it. Mock drill will be conducted today afternoon at 2.30 pm.

The Forest department prepared the plan during a discussion with the task force. Periyar wildlife sanctuary and Agasthyarkoodam forest areas are the main areas considered. The mock drill will be conducted involving police, fire force, revenue, health, and motor vehicle departments. The tasks and the details will be explained properly. Arikomban has been near the area for the last week.

It is reported that veterinary surgeon Arun Zakaria will reach Munnar this morning. The main obstacle at present is the afternoon rain. The operation will be planned considering this. The expert committee appointed by the High Court held a meeting the other day and handed over a report to the government regarding the place where the elephant should be shifted. The authorities are not ready to release the details due to fear of protests.
