Heavy fines to be imposed for throwing garbage in public places: Minister MB Rajesh

dd

PALAKKAD: Minister MB Rajesh said that it has been decided to levy heavy fines for dumping garbage in public places. The state will be completely waste free by May 2024. The minister was inaugurating the roadside rest centers which have been completed as part of the government's second 100-day program. The Take a Break Centre at Cherpulassery Ayyappankavu Premises was dedicated to the public by the minister.

Local bodies should follow the model of Sultan Batheriy where roadside garbage has been cleaned, as an example. Awareness should be created to prevent littering on roadsides. Adequate waste bins should be provided for depositing waste. For this, they can seek the support of merchants.

Malayalee does not ensure public hygiene like they ensure personal hygiene and household cleanliness. This should change. Waste management is the responsibility of every individual. The three-level panchayats should ensure that all households have facilities for bio-waste management. It should be ensured that Haritha Karma Sena is collecting garbage from households and the monthly fee is paid to them. Local bodies are responsible for ensuring cleanliness at Take A Break centers.

Cherpulassery Municipality Chairman P Ramachandran presided over the function. Malabar Devaswom Board Chairman MR Murali was the chief guest.
