Tourism department seeks report after Russian tourists clean up garbage at Fort Kochi beach

KOCHI: The tourism department has sought a report after a video of tourists from Russia cleaning Fort Kochi beach went viral. The video shows Russian tourists carrying garbage from the beach and stuffing it into sacks.

The tourists also wrote a message for the locals on the sacks. "Cleanse your life, collect trash, fill a pocket with it, burn it or bury it" was the message. Plastic, water hyacinth, thermocol, glass bottles etc. were found on the beach. The Russian team cleaned the beach in the presence of All Kerala Tour Guides Association President C Satheesh.

After the video of Russian tourists cleaning the beach went viral, there was severe criticism from many quarters. Criticism is being raised against the district administration and the Kochi Corporation. Cochin Heritage Conservation Society has been appointed to clean the Fort Kochi beach. But it is alleged that the cleaning work is not being done properly.
