THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fire broke out in the garbage heap at the Attukal temple parking ground. The incident happened around 4.30 pm yesterday. There are no damage or casualties.

Post-pongala debris including spadix and firewood were piled here. Locals alleged that the municipal corporation also dumped the waste from the Konchiravila temple after Pongala yesterday. There was smoke here since noon. When the fire broke out in the evening, the devotees who came to visit the temple and local residents informed the fire force.

Under the leadership of district fire officer Suraj and Thiruvananthapuram Station Officer Nithin Raj, two units from Chenkalchoola Fire Station and one unit from Chackai Fire Station extinguished the fire. The fire was completely extinguished by 9 pm. The burnt garbage at the bottom was taken out using JCB. Fire officials said that the fire may have been spread from spadix. Mayor Arya Rajendran visited the place.
