THRISSUR: Three shops were gutted in fire in Thrissur after a gas cylinder exploded on Pooram day. No one was injured but loss of lakhs of rupees has been estimated. The incident happened around 3 am, a half kilometre away from Swaraj round.

A closed shop named ‘Tea House’ caught fire first. It is assessed that a short circuit was the reason for the fire. The fire force officials rushed to the spot but two gas cylinders had exploded by then. The fire spread to nearby shops and a jewellery. Some silver ornaments got melted. The gold was safe as it was in the locker. The rescue operation was delayed due to lack of power supply. The fire was doused by seven units of fire force after three hours of effort.

Units from Thrissur, Pudukkadu, Natika, Vadakancherry, Kunnamkulam, and Irinjalakuda reached the spot. District Fire Officer Arun Bhaskar, Thrissur Station Officer Vijay Krishna, and Station In Charge Sminesh Kumar led the mission.
