Tanur boat accident: 14-member special team to investigate apart from judicial investigation

MALAPPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that apart from the judicial inquiry, a special police team will also investigate the Tanur boat accident. There will be an investigation by forming a special investigation team. Malappuram district police chief will lead the investigation. A flawless investigation will be conducted and the culprits will be brought to justice. The Chief Minister said that steps will be taken to take necessary precautions and impose strong restrictions to prevent such accidents from happening again.

The chief minister had earlier announced that a judicial inquiry would be conducted into the accident. The government intends to have a judicial commission consisting of technical experts. It has also been decided to pay Rs 10 lakh each to the families of each person who died in the accident. The Human Rights Commission also filed a case on its own initiative. The action is based on media reports.
