MUMBAI: A jewellery owner and his son have been arrested for smuggling gold at Mumbai International Airport. The revenue intelligence directorate arrested Keralites Muhammadali and his son Shabeeb Ali of Kerala, who have a jewellery shop in Dubai.
16.36 kilos of gold were seized at the airport on April 24. All 18 who smuggled the gold in paste form after hiding it in body, were detained. They came in many flights from UAE. They were examined based on the secret information received from the revenue intelligence.
Suhail Poonawala, Younus Sheikh, Govind Rajput, Muhammed Alam, Muhammed Usman were arrested then. The officials of the revenue intelligence said they were part of the gold smuggling racket. When questioned them in detail, the role of the jewellery owner and son, were obtained.
