KOTTAYAM: CPM State Secretary MV Govindan visited the home of Dr. Vandana, who was killed while on duty at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital. MV Govindan said that strong legal action will be taken against the accused. He stated that doctors had demanded hospital protection law during 'Janakeeya Prathirodha Yatra' but it could not be done in the last legislative session. MV Govindan added that the glycerin reference was an anti-government propaganda piece by the opposition and he doesn't want to comment on it.
Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had alleged that when Vandana's body was brought home in Kottayam, the minister who came to pay her last respects cried with glycerine. Thiruvanjoor mocked that these are donkey's tears.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to form a committee headed by the secretary of the medical education department to study and resolve the issues raised by the PG students and house surgeons in the wake of the Dr. Vandana Das' murder. The health minister gave the instructions to the officials in a discussion with the PG students and house surgeons. The government agreed to exempt house surgeons from night duty and allow one day off per week until the safety audit is completed.
