THRISSUR: A phone that exploded in the pocket of a man here was bought for Rs 1000, says 76-year-old Elias who went through the scare. He said that the iTel phone was bought a year ago and it was out of warranty.

The incident took place at 10 am at Marottichal in Thrissur when Elias' phone unexpectedly exploded while he was sitting in a tea stall. The phone, which turned into a ball of fire, was immediately thrown to the ground, so a big accident was averted. Elias was able to escape with minor injuries due to the fact that he was wearing a vest under his shirt.

Meanwhile, on April 25, an eight-year-old girl died after her phone exploded in Thiruvilwamala.
