PM to inaugurate Parliament Building; Amit Shah announces officially

NEW DELHI: The center officially announced the inauguration of the new Parliament building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the Parliament building to the nation on May 28, ignoring opposition's disagreement. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the new Parliament building reflects the Indian culture.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the event in the presence of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday noon. Presenting the nine-year report card of the Modi government, Amit Shah said the new Parliament building is a proof of vision for India.

Respecting and reviving historical traditions is one of the objectives set by Prime Minister Modi during the Amrita Mahotsav of Independence. Shah also announced that 'Sengol', an ancient relic of the legendary Chola dynasty, would be installed in the new Parliament building. He said that ‘Sengol’ is a symbol of freedom and impartial administration.

However, the opposition parties collectively decided to boycott the inaugural function. 19 parties including the congress, Trinamool Congress, CPM, CPI, NCP, RJD, AAP, JDU, DMK, SP, Siva Sena (UBT), Muslim League, Kerala Congress M, JMM, NC, RLD, VCK, MDMK have released a joint statement of boycotting the function. K Chandrashekhar Rao’s BRS will release their own statement.

The opposition decided to boycott the function in protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the new building, which should have been inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu as the Speaker of the Parliament. The parties including the Congress have alleged that this is a violation of constitutional propriety. Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said not inviting the President for the inauguration is an insult to Dalits, Adivasis and women.
