Indian origin teen wins Scripps National Spelling Bee contest

MARYLAND: Indian-origin Dev Shah (14) won this year's Scripps National Spelling Bee in the US. Dev is from Largo, Florida. Dev, an eighth grade student, is participating in the competition for the third time. His father, a software engineer, immigrated to the US from India 29 years ago.

The prize money for the winner is $50,000. Second place was bagged by Charlotte Walsh (Virginia). Last year's winner was Indian-origin Harini Logan from Texas. Since 1925, the annual spelling bee competition in the United States has been dominated by Indian origin-American students.
