SRINAGAR: The Amarnath Yatra has been suspended due to bad weather. The action was taken after heavy rains in the region. The administration has decided to suspend travel until the weather in Jammu and Kashmir improves. A total of 7200 pilgrims are staying at various base camps.
In an official notification issued in the morning, the authorities said that the yatra has been temporarily suspended and no pilgrims will be allowed to enter. It is reported that there are around 3200 pilgrims at the Nunwan Pahalgam base camp and 4000 pilgrims at the Baltal base camp. They will only be allowed to proceed to Amarnath after the weather improves.
Around 17,000 pilgrims came to visit the shrine yesterday. 85,000 pilgrims have reached Amarnath in the last seven days. Amarnath Yatra is a part of Char Dham Yatra and every year lakhs of devotees come here for Shiva darshan.
