On June 30, Devananda's face got swollen all of a sudden. The flustered parents took her to taluk hospital for treatment and the medicines worked out in reducing the swell. However, she experienced high temperatures, and soon the platelet count started increasing and a urine test confirmed the presence of bacteria. In the ensuing days after this, the temperature went high to 105 degrees Celsius shocking everyone. She was soon shifted to SIT in the capital city for treatment where Brucellosis was confirmed. Devananda hasn’t come out from the grip of fever but all her family members tested negative for the rare disease.

Meanwhile, district Epidemiologists visited Devananda's home and collected samples from the cow that the family-owned. All the tests showed no Brucellosis in the cattle present at her home. Devananda recently had milk-based edibles from the nearby bakery which might have invited the disease. According to experts, milk-based eateries if not made using heated milk can easily bring such diseases. The family has a dog, cat, and cow as pets.
