NEW DELHI: The country is celebrating the 77th Independence Day today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished the people of the country on Independence Day. The Prime Minister hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort. Two military helicopters showered flowers at the Red Fort. The Prime Minister then addressed the nation. The Prime Minister arrived at the Red Fort after paying floral tributes at Rajghat. Union Ministers and prominent political leaders reached the Red Fort and are participating in the ceremonies.
Heavy security has been arranged in the national capital. The Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which started with the country's 75th Independence Day in 2021, will conclude today.
Eight Malayalee health workers are among the special guests at the Independence Day celebrations attended by the Prime Minister at the Red Fort. 1800 people from various fields will be special guests. 50 of them are nurses.
In a note shared on the X platform, the Prime Minister announced that he paid tribute to the freedom fighters. The Prime Minister also reiterated his pledge to make their vision a reality.
Malayali Army officer Nikhita Nair is one of the two army officers who got a chance to stand with the Prime Minister when he hoists the national flag. Nikhita is a native of Thiruvananthapuram. For the first time in history, women officers of the Army will march along with the Prime Minister at the ceremony at the Red Fort. Nikhita joined the army in 2016.
