Gangster attack in Chinnakanal: Policeman stabbed

RAJAKKAD: A police officer was stabbed in an attack by a gang of gangsters on a police team that came as part of a case investigation in Chinnakanal. Deepak, a civil police officer of the Kayamkulam Kareelakulangara station, sustained four stab wounds. Doctors informed that Deepak, who underwent surgery, was out of danger.

Four people were later arrested by the police in the incident. Shameer, Munir, Firoz Khan and Hashim, natives of Kayamkulam, were arrested. The police officers who came to arrest the quotation group were attacked in the dark. Two people who were detained by the police were released by this quotation group.

Riyas, a hotel owner in Kayamkulam, was abducted and beaten up by the quotation gang three days ago. The reason was a dispute over a financial deal. Police got information that the accused in this case are hiding in Suryanelli. Then a five-member police team led by SI Sreekumar left for Suryanelli. The accused were found near the Chinnakanal Power House at around two o'clock in the morning and were taken into custody. While trying to get the accused into the police vehicle, another vehicle drove in between them and pepper spray was used on the police. Meanwhile, one of the assailants stabbed CPO Deepak with a weapon. The accused escaped after removing the key from the police vehicle.

Shantanpara police reached the spot later and admitted the injured policeman to Munnar Tata Hospital. Police noticed that the two vehicles used by the accused were passing near Kolukkumalai in the morning and searched that route. Four members of the group who left the vehicle and walked over the hill were arrested. Police are continuing to search for the rest of the accused in Tamil Nadu border areas.
