Silent campaign in Puthupally today; 1,76417 voters to go to polling booths tomorrow

KOTTAYAM: The high decibel electioneering for the Puthupally bypolls ended the other day with an electrifying show of strength by political parties in the constituency. There will be a silent campaign today. The fronts will be in the final stages to get the maximum number of votes. Seven candidates including Oommen Chandy's son Chandy Oommen for the Congress, Jaick C Thomas for the Left Party and Lijin Lal for the BJP are contesting in the by-election.

There are 1,76,417 voters in the constituency. Of these, 90,281 are women, 86,132 are men and four are transgenders. There are 957 new voters. Voting is from 7 am to 6 pm. Counting of votes is on September 8. Counting of votes will start at Baselios College from 8 am. A holiday has been announced for government, semi-government, educational and commercial institutions in Puthupally in view of polling tomorrow. Mobile phones are not allowed to be carried or used within 100 meters of the polling station. Only Election Commission observers and security personnel are allowed to use it.
