NEW DELHI: Delhi government has taken strict action against the IAS officers who removed athletes from the stadium to walk their pet dog. The government has asked them to voluntarily retire from service for abuse of power.

Last year, Rinku Dugga (54) and her husband, IAS officer Sanjeev Khirwar, ordered sportspersons to vacate the government-owned Thyagaraj Stadium as soon as possible. At that time the athletes were engaged in their training. After removing the athletes from the stadium, they took their pet dog for a walk on the stadium's synthetic track. After the incident became controversial, the Chief Secretary of Delhi submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs. The report was against Rinku Dugga and her husband Sanjeev Khirwar. Following this, Rinku Dugga was transferred to Arunachal Pradesh as an emergency measure and her husband Sanjeev Khirwar, who was the Delhi Principal Secretary in the Revenue Department, was transferred to Ladakh.

Rinku Dugga and Sanjeev Khirwar are IAS holders in 1994 batch. However, the couple has not yet commented on the issue.
