THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There has been a surprising rise in domestic travelers visiting Kerala during this year. In the first 6 months of this year, there was an increase of 20.1 percent. A total of 1.06 crore domestic tourists have visited Kerala until September of this year.
In 2022, 88.95 lakh people arrived during the first six months. The excellent figures show how Kerala's tourism sector managed to completely overcome the Covid scare that has stymied the tourism sector in the state for all this time. Most of the domestic tourists are from North India.
Along with these new figures of domestic tourists, there has also been a decent surge in the number of foreign tourists visiting the state. According to the Department of Tourism, 2.8 lakh foreign tourists arrived during this period.
Edakkal Cave, Kuruva Island, Chembra Hills, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Pookode Lake, Munnar, Arch Dam, Periyar National Park, Meesapulimala, Ramakalmedu, and Eravikulam National Park in the hilly regions of Wayanad and Idukki are the most sought after locations.
