THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reliance has announced that it will establish a new generation data centre and cable station in the state by connecting various international data centres. Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited President Mathew Oommen said that it will be established in such a way that it will favor the Kerala brand knowledge economy transformation targeted by the government through Keraleeyam.
This can reduce the tendency of youth to go outside Kerala in search of work and education and accelerate the economic progress of the state. He also said that the first discussions in this regard have been completed.
The aim is to connect grids like energy, labour, medical, education, IT and tourism at the international level and thereby create employment and industrial opportunities in the state. The project has been submitted to the government. This will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram. The land and other infrastructure will be provided by the state government. This is the first such centre in the country.
Youth migrate to foreign countries because the state cannot provide them employment with better wages. The government's concern is that the exodus of young people abroad will cause a brain drain that could backfire economically and intellectually.
Legislation to prevent migration
Meanwhile, the state is mulling legislation to prevent mass migration of young people abroad. To learn about this, two committees were appointed to study student migration. But there is also an opinion that the legislation will do more harm than good. It is hoped that with the coming of the new data centre, better employment and wage availability will be ensured in the state.
