accident

THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: In a tragic incident that shocked Kattakada, a female student was crushed to death by a KSRTC bus. The incident happened at 4:45 pm today. Abhanya (18), a graduate student of Kattakkada Christian College is the deceased. She was rushed to the hospital by the locals after the incident but couldn’t be saved. Police arrested Anakode native Ramachandran, a driver of the Kattakkada depot, in the incident.

Abhanya on her way home from college, stopped near the KSRTC bus depot to make a phone call. She was standing in an isolated space when another KSRTC bus from Vizhinjam arrived at the depot. The bus stopped in front of Abhanya and she continued with her call. Shockingly, the bus again moved forward and crushed Abhanya to a pillar of the commercial complex.

A huge protest mostly led by students ensued in the place, and they accused the driver of being drunk. After the incident, Ramachandran eloped from the stand and ran straight to the superintendent's office for safety. The students and locals protested in the depot asking police to arrest him. An argument broke out between the police and the students after the students blocked the buses. Following this, the students protested by sitting in front of the depot. The students later dispersed after Kattakkada DySP Shibu informed them that the driver had been arrested. Abhanya's body will be handed over to her relatives after post-mortem.

As of now, the situation returned to normalcy with timely police intrusion.
