THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Both the Congress and the Youth Congress have found themselves on the defensive after the controversy that fake identity cards were widely used in the Youth Congress elections reached new heights. Both BJP and DYFI have initiated legal actions pointing out that the use of fake identity cards is a matter that can affect national security.
The BJP has raised a serious allegation against the Youth Congress. BJP state president K Surendran alleged that fake ID cards were widely used in the Youth Congress election and the fraud took place with the knowledge of a Congress MLA. He also lodged a complaint with the State Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kaul in this regard. He also alleged that complaints about this had reached Rahul Gandhi and Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge.
Meanwhile, the DYFI is alleging that the Election Commission and the central government are responsible for the incident. It also said that top leaders of the Congress, including opposition leader VD Satheesan, have a role in this. DYFI has lodged a complaint with the DGP in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Congress leaders have come out justifying the incident. Shafi Parambil MLA said that baseless allegations were being raised to attack the Congress and the Youth Congress. "The election process was conducted in a transparent manner. There is nothing in this allegation other than an attempt by some people to get in the news," Shafi Parambil said.
The incident came to light after a section of Youth Congress workers came out against a candidate who won the election in Kuttippuram. They alleged that more than 5000 fake ID cards were created for the Youth Congress elections.
