KOCHI: Cricketer S Sreesanth has responded to the complaint that he had extorted money after promising to construct a villa in Karnataka. The former India cricketer said that the complaint against him was baseless and that he had not even seen the complainant before.
He also said that he will take legal action against the fake allegations. The police had registered a case against Sreesanth the other day. It was Kannapuram native Sareeg Balagoplan who lodged the complaint with the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate. The Kannur Town Police registered the case as directed by the court.
The incident related to the case took place in 2019. In his complaint, Sareeg alleged that Uduppi natives Rajeev Kumar (50) and K Venkatesh Kini (45) received Rs 18,70,00 from him after promising to give him a villa constructed in five cents of land. However, they did not give him the villa they promised. When he approached the two, they said that he would be made a part of the cricket project that Sreesanth was going to start in the promised land. Later, Sreesanth met the complainant and promised him a villa as part of the project, the complaint read.
Sareeg said that he approached the police after Sreesanth backed out from the promise and refused to return the money. Sreesanth is the third accused in the case. Rajeev Kumar and Venkatesh Kini are the first two accused.
