THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The internal organs of staff nurse Selvin Shekhar (36) will give new life to six people in Kerala. The heart, kidney and pancreas of the deceased nurse will be airlifted to Ernakulam shortly. Eyes were also donated to hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram.

Health Minister Veena George informed that the helicopter is being used as per the instructions of the Chief Minister. The heart will go to Ernakulam’s Lisie Hospital while the pancreas will reach Aster Medcity. Traffic restrictions will be in effect in Kochi after the helicopter carting the internal organs touches down the place.

The heart is given to Harinarayan (16), a native of Kayamkulam who will undergo a critical replacement surgery in the coming hours. Harinarayanan’s family thanked Selvin Shekhar’s family for the noble deed. It is after a small hiatus that the internal organs are airlifted in Kerala. The Minister informed that organ donation will be coordinated through the K-SOTTO Project (Mrita Sanjeevani).

Selvin was a staff nurse in a hospital in Tamil Nadu. He was declared brain dead on Friday while undergoing treatment in Thiruvananthapuram’s hospital. Selvin’s wife is also a staff nurse.
